Ancient Evidence of God
One of the first steps along the road to recovery in Jesus Christ is actually believing that the God Jesus spoke of (His Heavenly Father)……. is real. For many, this is incomprehensible and aligns with much of what we refer to as fairy tales or mythology. Christians can seem like they are somewhat crazy and not aligned with reality. In fact, in our modern world, the behaviour of speaking to something or someone you can't see is considered "crazy" and even a sign of severe mental illness. How is it then that such a large percentage of humans carry on this way, praying to a God they can't see and experiencing the supernatural?
You do not have to dig too far to find an overwhelming amount of anecdotal evidence (stories told by people about their personal experiences) of the unseen spiritual world. This other dimension encompasses reports of angels, ghosts, aliens, demons, and numerous other manifestations of another realm coexisting alongside our physical world.
The earliest evidence of this phenomenon comes from ancient cultures, including reports of conversations with beings and even strange creatures believed to inhabit the earth. Otherworldly beings and phenomena are an undeniable part of the human experience that much of science tends to overlook (so weird). And for the majority of people who embark on this journey to discover spiritual things, they will find it. If you are someone who has not embarked on this journey, check in with the people you know who have, and they will share their stories.
I am writing this introductory blog for Rivers of Redemption because God has guided me to do so. I believe my God is the God over everything, including the other supposed gods. I wouldn't be writing any of this had I not had my own encounter with the God of ancient Judaism, Yahweh. This God is the one whom we Christians believe sent Himself in Jesus Christ to offer a pathway out of sin and death. That is for another blog sometime, though.
A few days ago, I started an interesting short devotional (study in the Bible) on how Jesus mentioned the book of Deuteronomy from the Old Testament (His religious scripture) more than any other book in the Bible. This really got me wondering about my interpretation of this very old and intense book in the Bible. It has been a challenging read for me each time I have attempted to read through it. To our modern Christian culture, it seems to contrast with what we have learned about a loving God. But! It was Jesus who taught us about how loving God is, and He used this religious text. So, I knew I must really not have read this with His eyes. This led me to dive into this scripture, and already God is revealing so much, which is ALWAYS the way it is every time I read the Bible since I decided to recommit my life to Jesus six years ago. YES, the Holy Bible will speak to you once you put your faith in Jesus.
Anyway, while reading Deuteronomy chapter 4 today, when Moses begins to deliver the law in detail to the Israelites, I can hear him preaching the Gospel (Jesus' message) to this group, which is some 1,500 years before Jesus was born. He is proclaiming to them that they, the Israelites, hold the evidence within their history of the greatness and power of the God Moses is calling them to follow.
"Has any other people heard the voice of God speaking out of fire, as you have, and lived? Has any god ever tried to take for himself one nation out of another nation, by testings, by signs and wonders, by war, by a mighty hand and an outstretched arm, or by great and awesome deeds, like all the things the Lord your God did for you in Egypt before your very eyes? You were shown these things so that you might know that the Lord is God; besides him there is no other."
Deuteronomy 4:33-35 NIV
And that is the story you will read if you read Exodus in the Old Testament, another ancient Jewish scripture. However, here is the truth that led me to start this blog and begin writing.
This very section of the Old Testament is Moses preaching to the Israelites about following their God alone, and never worshiping any idols or gods from foreign countries they would encounter. So, over 3,500 years ago, in the most loved book in all of human history (the Bible), the God Yahweh, whom the Israelites worshiped, claimed to be the one true God who would rule over all other gods that humans worship or create. Most of the idols and gods worshiped in large ancient civilizations like Assyria and Babylon are gone. Like, where are they? Indeed, there is a small remnant of humans who worship some ancient pagan gods. But, the God of the Israelites is a worldwide movement infiltrating every country globally, even in the countries that try to ban the worship of this God! This God is actually the most real and powerful thing, exactly like He told Moses and his people He was. He has spread Himself, through the sacrifice of His son, to all the nations. He also told the Israelites that He would do this through His prophets, which is also recorded in ancient Jewish texts.
What I'm saying is that if you read these ancient manuscripts, what God said then about being the only true God has been proven by the spread of His truth throughout the entire globe. These other ancient religions have largely disappeared. No one is worshiping Baal and Asherah anymore.
Open the Bible for yourself if you haven't before (or do it again!) and learn about this all-powerful, one true God, who has never failed in His claim to be the supreme God since He was first introduced by a nation called Israel.
May you all find the truth and the miraculous blessings, peace, and inner healing that come from knowing God.
In Jesus' name, Amen!
